Being Arrested

In Sherman Oaks, the next step after being arrested is to be processed at the Van Nuys Police Station. The Van Nuys Police Station serves over 35,000 people in both Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys communities. The jail is the largest in the San Fernando Valley and located central to both locations.

Once the defendant arrives at the jail, they will be booked, photographed and their fingerprints taken. If a defendant is not immediately bailed out, their first court appearance will be held within 48 hours of their arrest. After their initial appearance, they will be transported to a larger facility. Most often, this will be the Inmate Reception Center, or IRC, located in downtown Los Angeles.

The booking process can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours depending on how busy the jail is. Inmates can not post bond or be eligible for release until the entire booking process has been completed. If you know a loved one has been arrested, call 50 Bail Bonds immediately.

Bailing them out when they are still at the Van Nuys Police Department is much easier than waiting until they have been transferred. Once they enter a large jail system, it can take several more hours before they can be released. In some cases, the time can be extended as much as 24 hours.
